Update: Here’s the latest clip from the show – Bear Grylls serving up some Alaska salmon, found on a river bank, half eaten by a bear, to President Obama! Haha! This looks like it will be a fun episode:
I am absolutely amazed by the recent news – one of the amazing stars to be featured on an episode Running Wild with Bear Grylls is none other than the President of the United States, Barack Obama!
Here’s a short clip of Bear on the Morning Show admitting how nervous he was about this particular episode:
I’m not a political person, but I think this is so much fun that Obama is going on an adventure with Bear Grylls! I’m really excited for this episode! We’ve already seen some great guests from Season 2 on Running Wild that include Kate Hudson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kate Winslet, Ed Helms, Michelle Rodriguez and James Marsden. It looks like since Bear and Obama are heading to Alaska now to tape the episode, but reports are saying that it will air later this year, so it sounds like this will be an episode that will be in Season 2 of Running Wild with Bear Grylls. I will keep posting more information about this epic adventure as more is known. NBC and the White House both announced this amazing adventure this morning. Barack Obama is heading to Alaska for three days to promote a climate change action, and while he’s there, he’ll join Bear Grylls on an adventure.
It is part of his administration’s efforts to build support for new legislation significantly capping carbon dioxide emissions from power plants in the US, as well as raise attention to the ways climate change has damaged Alaska’s natural landscape.²
I really hope they go to Gates of the Arctic National Park. I worked there a few years ago as a backcountry ranger, so it would be amazing to see them take on that park! 🙂 But it looks like it will likely be in the Seward, Alaska area. It’s been confirmed that he will be hiking on a glacier there in the Kenai Fjords National Park to see the effects of climate change first hand.¹ [su_gmap width=”360″ height=”260″ address=”seward, alaska”] However, it’s also reported that Obama will be the first sitting U.S. President to visit the Arctic, but that is much further North in Alaska. Yesterday, Bear posted an image on his Instagram saying that he was off to Alaska with a hashtag of Running Wild, so it must be true!

Bear does such a great job asking questions about the celebrities personal lives and get them to open up about their lives and struggles. It will be great to see what Bear and Obama have to talk about!
And of course, there’s already some great, funny images to get us excited about seeing Obama learn some survival skills and survival techniques from Bear Grylls:
